Surrender is a belly laugh
The mind likes to talk about “practicing surrender” or “practicing letting go.” In reality, the only thing between you and full surrender is the mind’s stories and ideas. Surrender is something we already know intimately — you already know what it feels like to surrender to a much-needed sleep, or to hunger or thirst, or losing yourself in a joyful moment of full belly laughter. The mind fears surrender, because in those moments of full presence, the mind itself is extinguished…in those moments, the self is forgotten.
The mind fights surrender, but surrender is really the most natural thing in the world. It feels wonderful to surrender stale air from your lungs; to surrender to warm sunshine kissing your skin; to get lost in a creative flow state.
Life is a game of perpetual surrender, and the more deeply surrender is embodied, the more deeply life is truly lived.
